What do you get out of reading and tuning in to Joy of Romance and Intelligent Love: 411 for Men? I guarantee plenty of tidbits and juicy morsels will be available for you to take away and play with after reading my blog, attending one of my classes, listening to a radio interview, watching my vodcast series Intelligent Love: 411 for Men and one of my new projects. My overall goal, through all of the different mediums, is to bring you a deeper understanding of the chemistry, psychology and practical wisdom of passionate and thriving relationships, whether you are single, in a relationship or in between. Here’s why this is important. We educate ourselves to achieve peak performance in our careers, in our workouts, in our nutrition but what matters most in life is your relationship to the one you love. So why not educate ourselves in love too? My mission is to guide you in building a fun, successful and long-lasting . I take a different perspective than most therapists and doctors in this field. I concentrate on gaining a broader overall understanding of the chemical ebb and flow that happens within the individuals in a relationship, incorporating the importance of self-talk and what it takes to do the relationship dance while staying in balance. In general, I will help you optimize your mental and physical health so you can be the best partner you can be.

Who have been my mentors and teachers throughout my process of creating the Joy of Romance, Inc.? I wouldn’t be here today with this broad foundation of knowledge I have if it wasn’t for several authors, professors and scientists. Over 15 years ago, when I started reading work on human relationships from the perspective of social anthropology, one woman’s work stood out. Her name was Dr. Helen Fisher. I had the incredible opportunity to develop a friendship with her last year and she remains my greatest mentor. Keep an eye peeled for her new book, which is based on many of the discoveries she has found by working with her million plus “test subjects” on Chemistry.com. In my studies of the Facial Action Coding System, I want to thank my FACS Boot Camp professor Dr. Ericka Rosenberg and Dr. Paul Ekman who created the process. Dr. John Gottman who brought the practical application of FACS to his work with married couples. FACS is a system that carefully describes how the face moves. Armed with the ability to interpret how the face moves with FACS, you can interpret the top seven universal emotions and gain a solid understanding of facial expressions worldwide. Dr. Gary Chapman really tapped into something when he detailed the five love languages. It makes “filling your partner’s love reservoirs” that much easier when you truly understand what they need to feel filled up on love. Expressing love can be done much more effectively and efficiently when you ...

Why incorporate the scientific angle into my philosophy? I am perpetually reading books on relationships, love and overall self-help. Over the past few decades, a new niche of scientific books on neuroscience , positive psychology and human interactions has emerged. I was fascinated by the concepts in some of the self-help books but was longing for the science to prove what I was reading had validity beyond just “deep thoughts” by the author. When I started finding more and more authors beginning to research and incorporate the science, psychology and sociology behind our loving connections I felt there was one more piece of the puzzle put in place. Experiments using fMRI studies of couples brains have shown that individuals in long term relationships CAN have the same body chemistry flowing through their veins as couples who just connected. This is exciting stuff! I was driven to find out what makes those couples so happy with one another and their relationship after 10, 20 and even 50 years.

What gave me the “ah ha” moment to start the Joy of Romance, Inc.? My marriage wasn’t going quite as smoothly as I would have liked and although I thought it was just one of those passing dips in the life cycle of a relationship, it wound up becoming a serious downward spiral that ended in divorce. It was during the first big rocky patch when I realized our society doesn’t provide many, if any, good role models for thriving, passionate and long-lasting relationships. Plus, most of us come from broken families so there is a definite lack of real life examples of passionate, thriving relationships for us to emulate. Long before and ever since my undergraduate minor in Psychology, I have been curious about patterns of human behavior, in particular in relationship to members of the opposite sex. In addition, I have always loved love. In combination with being a serial entrepreneur, I put it all together and was thrilled to find a way to blend my passion and enthusiasm into one outlet called Joy of Romance, Inc. With this endeavor, I knew I would enjoy the creativity, intellectual challenge and the ability to enrich the world’s love quota. I was inspired to create a one-stop-shop for everything romantic online in conjunction with a competent team of like-minded individuals with a passion for helping individuals learn more about creating and sustaining loving relationships. I am convinced Joy of Romance, Inc. will become a primary resource for guiding people ...

Welcome to the Joy of Romance Blog. Let me tell you a bit of what you can expect if you follow my blog. I will be writing about what makes relationships stand the test of time while remaining fun, juicy and filled with love. I will bring you interesting facts about the chemistry, psychology and sociology of what makes us as 21th century human beings not that far apart from our hunter and gatherer cousins. I will be discussing this because it has been my experience that when you gain a deeper understanding of biology, love and relationship patterns, you will have greater empathy for both yourself and your partner, thus creating stronger partnerships. Armed with this knowledge of relationship patterns, we will be able to use our hearts and minds to get a clearer picture of where our internal chemistry naturally leads us. Plus, I will regularly provide tips, exercises and suggestions that you can take home and implement immediately. Join me on this journey!
